A collaboration between the University of Missouri, the City of Columbia and participating nonprofit agencies, Tiger Treasures collects and sells unwanted items donated by students departing for the summer from MU Residential Life facilities and Greek houses. The project diverts tons of material from the landfill, and all proceeds from the sale benefit The Y, Mizzou’s YMCA.
The sale is typically held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. the Saturday after spring graduation occurs. The location is Mizzou Surplus Property, 1507 Capen Park Road. Carpooling is encouraged and parking will be available at the Hearnes Center, where shuttle buses will be present to transport shoppers to the sale. This event draws hundreds of people each year so be sure to wear comfy clothes and show up early.
Tiger Treasures offers an early bird special from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. for individuals who would like to show up before the doors open. This option requires a $5 donation which goes toward the University YMCA’s Camp Mudd (an outdoor camp for children). Individuals who would like to shop from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. do not have to make a donation to enter the Mizzou Surplus Property.
Details on the Spring 2019 Tiger Treasures will be made available soon.
