Water is the life-blood of our world. Mizzou is lucky to be situated geographically in an area with an abundance of available water, but that does not mean we should conserve water any less. Mizzou has worked hard to reduce water waste through increases in efficiency and by identifying areas of unnecessary water waste. The graph and table below show the degree to which Mizzou has reduced its water usage throughout the years.
FY08 | FY09 | FY10 | FY11 | FY12 | FY13 | FY14 | FY15 | FY16 | FY17 | FY18 | |
Water Use (kgals) | 357,569 | 324,296 | 317,660 | 297,308 | 323,048 | 319,836 | 316,295 | 273,508 | 293,062 | 273,336 | 256,424 |
Individual Water Use
Not all of the water used on campus is used directly by students, staff or faculty, but looking at water use in a per-capita context can provide valuable insight to campus users. The trend lines for the two data-sets over the last decade show how water use gas decreased over time while campus population has generally gone up.

Water Usage and Building Size
Over time, the building gross square footage on the Mizzou campus has gone up. Because of the vast volumes of water buildings utilize, Mizzou has had to dramatically increase the efficiency of buildings with regards to water consumption. The graph below shows how water use has decreased even though there has been a steady increase in gross square foot of building space throughout the past decade.
