Tree Campus USA, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, helps maintain and establish communities of trees on campuses nationwide. The addition of trees lends itself to many environmental and health benefits such as reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide. As of June 2018, the University of Missouri is a Tree Campus USA affiliate. In order to become an affiliate campuses must:
- Have a campus tree advisory committee
- Have a campus tree care plan
- Have dedicated annual expenditures in a campus tree program
- Host an Arbor Day Observance
- Provide outreach through a service-learning project
